Who can launch a SIF

Fund houses and distributors · a SIF concept, explained from SEBI’s rules.

In one line

A SEBI-registered mutual fund that qualifies by track record (₹10,000 crore average AUM over three years) or by appointing a qualified CIO and fund manager, with no SEBI action against it in three years.

The rule

Route 1: the mutual fund has operated for at least three years with average AUM of at least ₹10,000 crore in the preceding three years. Route 2: the AMC appoints a SIF CIO with at least 10 years of fund management and average AUM managed of ₹5,000 crore, and another fund manager with at least three years and ₹500 crore. Under either route, no action under sections 11, 11B or 24 of the SEBI Act against the sponsor or AMC in the last three years (circular para 1.1.1). Average AUM is measured over 10 years for the CIO and 3 for the fund manager (FAQ B8).
